Roofers in the Phoenix area: tile, leaks and inspections

Local roofers around the Valley, how tile roofs and underlayment hold up in Arizona heat, what an inspection covers and what to do about a monsoon leak.

October 20, 2026

AZ Business Directory lists local roofing companies around the Phoenix area, each with a phone number. If you see a leak or storm damage, call a roofer, and do not climb on the roof yourself. Roof work is dangerous, especially in Valley heat, and it is a job for a professional.

How do you choose a roofer?

  • Are you licensed? Check with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors at roc.az.gov before you sign.
  • Are you insured? Ask for proof.
  • What types of roofs do you work on? Tile, shingle, foam, metal and flat roofs are different jobs.
  • Do you offer inspections? Ask whether they are free and what the report covers.
  • Is there a written estimate? It should list materials and labor.
  • What is the warranty? Ask about the work and the materials.
  • Do you do emergency tarping? Helpful after a storm.

How do tile roofs work in Arizona?

Many Valley homes have tile roofs. The tiles you see are the top layer. The layer underneath, called underlayment, is what keeps water out. Years of sun and heat wear it down, so a tile roof can look fine while the underlayment is failing. Tiles can also crack or slip, from wind, hail or a footstep.

That is why a roofer may suggest an inspection if your roof is older, even with no leak. Ask them to explain what they find and take photos you can see.

What does a roof inspection cover?

A typical inspection looks at tiles or shingles, flashing around vents and chimneys, valleys where two slopes meet, the condition of any foam or flat roof sections, and signs of water inside the attic or ceilings. Ask for a plain report and a price for any repair.

Some listings spell out their work. Canyon State Roofing & Consulting in Ahwatukee is a family-owned contractor with tile, shingle, foam, metal and flat roofs, plus emergency tarping. Desert State Roofing in Cave Creek does residential and commercial repair and replacement, including storm damage and walk deck work. Allstate Roofing in Peoria lists tile, shingle and foam roofs, repairs and inspections.

What should you do about a monsoon leak?

  1. Stay inside and stay safe. Do not go onto the roof.
  2. Move furniture and put a bucket under the drip.
  3. If a ceiling bulges or sags with water, keep people out from under it. Water near light fixtures or outlets is an electrical hazard, so call an electrician or the roofer for guidance and do not touch it.
  4. Take photos for your insurance agent.
  5. Call a roofer and ask about emergency tarping.

Schedule an inspection before June, when the monsoon begins, so problems are found while the weather is dry.

Questions people ask

How often should I have my roof inspected?

Many homeowners schedule one before monsoon season and after major storms. Ask a roofer how often your type and age of roof should be checked.

Does insurance cover roof damage from a storm?

It depends on your policy. Call your insurance agent, take photos and ask what they need before you hire anyone.

How do I know if my tile roof needs new underlayment?

You usually cannot tell from the ground. A roofer can lift tiles and check the layer beneath. Ask them to show you photos of what they find.
