Nail salons in the Valley: gel, dip and how to book

Local nail salons around the Phoenix area with phone numbers, plus the difference between gel and dip and what to ask about cleanliness.

October 11, 2026

AZ Business Directory lists local nail salons and spas around the Phoenix area, in Gilbert, Scottsdale and the Paradise Valley area of Phoenix. Each listing has a phone number, so you can ask about openings, services and prices before you go. Book ahead for weekends, holidays and any day before a big event.

How do you choose a nail salon?

Visit or call, and use your eyes and ears.

  • Is the space clean? Tools should be cleaned between customers, and the stations should look tidy.
  • Do they offer what you want? Ask about manicures, pedicures, gel, dip, extensions, waxing and kids' services.
  • Can you book online or by phone? Ask how far ahead you need to call.
  • How long is the service? Gel and extensions take longer than a basic polish.
  • How do they handle a bad result? Ask what happens if a nail chips or lifts in the first few days.
  • What are the prices? Ask for the total, including any add-ons.

What is the difference between gel and dip?

Both last longer than regular polish, but they work differently.

Gel polish is painted on like polish and then hardened under a lamp. It comes off with a soak or file at the salon.

Dip powder is made by brushing on a base coat, dipping the nail in colored powder, then sealing it. It can feel thicker and stiffer than gel.

Neither is better for every person. Ask your nail tech which one suits your nails and how often to refill. Whatever you choose, have it removed gently instead of peeling it off, which can thin your natural nail.

What should you ask about cleanliness?

You are allowed to ask, and a good salon will answer.

  1. How do you clean the tools between customers?
  2. Are the pedicure tubs cleaned after each person?
  3. Are the technicians licensed? (You can also check with the Arizona state board that licenses salons.)
  4. Do you use a new file or buffer for each customer?

If you have a cut, a rash or a health condition, tell the salon, and talk to your doctor before getting a service.

Who is in the directory?

Classy Nails Spa on 90th Street in Scottsdale lists manicures, pedicures, SNS dip, Gel-X, waxing, lash extensions and kids' services. Desert Nail Spa has two locations, one in the Kierland area of Scottsdale on Greenway Parkway and one on Tatum Boulevard in the Paradise Valley area of Phoenix, both open seven days a week. Beaute Nail & Spa on Williams Field Road in Gilbert lists nail care and spa treatments for women and men.

Arizona notes

Desert air is dry and hard on cuticles, so moisturize your hands and use cuticle oil. Hot cars and sun can also fade some polish colors. For summer pedicures, go in the evening and bring sandals you can slip on, so you do not smudge your toes.

Questions people ask

How long do gel nails last?

Many people keep gel on for a couple of weeks or more, but it depends on your nails and your work. Ask your tech when to come back for a fill or removal.

Do I need an appointment for a manicure?

Some salons take walk-ins and many prefer appointments, especially on weekends. Call the number on the listing and ask.

Can kids get a manicure?

Some salons offer kids' services. Classy Nails Spa lists them, and others may too. Call and ask what is offered and what ages they take.
